FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • An epoxy floor is a multi-layer flooring system that typically consists of a primer, base coat, colorants/ decorative vinyl chips/ non-slip additives, and a top coat. The primer promotes a high-quality bond between the substrate and the base coat. The base coat forms a thicker protective layer that can have additives such as vinyl chips for a look similar to terrazzo, a single solid color or metallic to create unique appearances such as swirls, marbling, or a flow direction. The top coat is an additional protective layer over the base coat. Epoxy is not UV stable and will yellow over time if not properly protected. Epoxy is also very hard and will show scratches and blemishes more readily than top coats. Top coats are typically polyaspartic, urethane, or siloxane. These top coats are UV stable and have excellent wear qualities due to their flex characteristics.

  • The cost varies depending on the quality of the concrete substrate the epoxy is being applied to, the amount and size of cracks, pits and spalls, filling of joints, and the type of flooring system that is chosen for the project. It is be to call to discuss your project and schedule a free estimate

  • An epoxy floor has a lot to offer. Due to the chemical resistant nature of epoxy, polyaspartics, and urethane the concrete is protected from damage and staining of oils, foods, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and various solvents, chemicals and acids. The time the different chemicals can sit on the surface before discoloring varies but in each case more than enough protection time is provided to easily clean up.

The flooring system also protects against mechanical damage to the concrete. So, dropping tools and other daily items isn’t a big deal, on the other hand dropping a bowling ball may damage your floor.

These flooring systems are also very easy to clean. Tire marks, spills, snow/ salt melt patches, and mud wipe away. Another underrated advantage is the light reflectivity. Your space will become a brighter and more pleasant place to work or play.

  • The only thing that needs to be done before is the floor area that will be coated will need to be cleared and adequate access will need to be provided. If assistance is needed for storage of your items we are happy to help arrange storage pods or containers. After the coating is complete you will need to keep all access blocked off until the coating has cured. This is very important as accidents have occurred where people, pets, or contaminants have gotten on wet floors.

  • Installation depends on the type of flooring system, quality of the concrete, existing coatings, glues, adhesives to be removed, and the size of the project. Below is a general breakdown.
    Residential: 1-3 Days
    Commercial:
    2-5 Days
    Industrial:
    2-8 Days

  • It’s best to contact us and talk about the project. There are lots of variables that affect the system that should be used. The state of the concrete, what the space is used for, budget, and time line are a few.

  • Typically, no. Vinyl chip floors will have a texture from the chips, and non-slip additives can be added to the top coat. Metallic and single color floors are smooth by nature and slip resistant topcoats are applied, but again non-slip additives can be added if desired.

  • Our standard warranty is two years. With a moisture mitigating primer the warranty is extended to five years. This covers materials and labor. Examples of non covered situations would be mechanical damage caused by dropping heavy items or the concrete cracking causing a crack in the coating.
